Motivate Yourself to Sew

{sewing inspiration}

New Year’s Resolution – try to sew.

I love making things that look pretty but I will do anything to get out of doing jobs like hemming or fixing *very large yawn*.

If, like me, you need a bit of inspiration to get out the needle for the boring-snoring jobs…

Follow these easy steps:

 Find a box or container that is unusual or gorgeous in any way and makes you want to clap uncontrollably every time you look at it.

Go shopping and buy a few new ‘sewing essentials’ (lovely thread, sweet little scissors, dressmaker’s chalk etc)

Spend an afternoon by the fire, arranging your supplies in little see-through boxes and putting them beautifully into your sewing basket.

Now find some projects to get stuck into! You could… make your own Frank (see here) but then, I am biased because I love him so much!

  1. A very well timed post. I started to make a top out of some gorgeous fabric I bought on my trip to the UK at the end of last year. It went well but just didn´t suit me. I have taken it apart with a view to “refashioning” it and it has been sitting, pinned on my mannequin since just before Christmas. I need to do something about it, and SOON!

    1. I always have high hopes for my home-made clothes but they never quite turn out how I expect. I am always transported back to ‘yes my granny knitted my school jumper’ feelings of being 7 years old. I am in awe of people who can sew lovely clothes 🙂

  2. I use to sew things for my daughter when she was a little girl. As she got older, I made her costumes and some things around the house. I don’t know how I lost my passion for sewing but I want to start sewing again. I do have a project that somebody wants me to do … this may be the beginning.

    Thank you.
